The Station

BFM 89.9 is Malaysia's only independent English-language business radio station, the equivalent of Bloomberg Radio for the Malaysian market. Its audience is business owners, executives, investors, and professionals. Not developers. Not crypto enthusiasts. People who need to understand technology in terms of what it means for their business.

The Segments

Two live appearances across 2016, both focused on making blockchain comprehensible to a mainstream business audience:

  • "Introduction to Blockchains" — a primer segment explaining distributed ledger technology without jargon, focused on the business implications rather than the cryptography
  • "Unblocking the Mystery" — a follow-up segment addressing the questions and misconceptions that emerged from the first appearance

Why It Matters

Live radio to a non-technical audience is the hardest communication challenge in this space. There's no slides. No demos. No code to point at. You have to explain why a merkle tree matters to someone running a palm oil trading company, and you have about 90 seconds before they tune out.

These appearances came during the same period as the Blockchain Embassy consortium work, where the same skill of making blockchain relevant to institutional decision-makers was being applied in boardrooms across KL. The radio segments were the public-facing version of the private conversations happening with Maybank, RHB, and Capital Bay.
